Jenson Button won today's wet and wild Canadian Grand Prix in the McLaren after a dramatic pass on Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel on the last lap who finished second after starting the race in pole position, while Vettel's teammate finished third to round out the podium. Michael Schumacher in the Mercedes finished fourth after running as high as second late in the race, Vitaly Petrov in the Renault finished fifth, Felipe Massa finished sixth in the Ferrari, Kamui Kobayashi finished seventh in the Sauber, Jaime Algersuari finished eighth in the Toro Rosso, Rubens Barrichello finished ninth in the Williams, and Alguersuari's teammate Sebastien Buemi finished tenth.
The 70-lap race through the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve at Ile-Notre-Dame in Montreal was marred by the start of the race by safety car, a shunt between Button and his teammate Lewis Hamilton, a two hour rain delay, several more safety car deployments, which all resulted in the race lasting four hours (the longest in F1 history). Button was in 21st place at the restat and finished at the top of the podium even after an investigation by the stewards as a result of the coming together between th e two former world champions (Button and Hamilton). The race was an exciting one and was certainly one for the ages.
Transport Minister Denis Lebel handed out the winner's trophy to Button, while Quebec Finance Minister Raymond Bachand handed out the constructor's trophy to McLaren, and Montreal mayor Gerald Tremblay handed out the second place trophy to Vettel.
The results leave Vettel with 161 points, Button with 101, Webber at 94 points, Hamilton with 85 points, and Massa's teammate Fernando Alonso at 69 points. Red Bull stand at 255 points, McLaren at 186 points, Ferrari at 101 points, Renault at 60 points, and Mercedes at 52 points.
The next race is the European Grand Prix in two weeks time at Valencia in Spain. On to Valencia.
