2007 Japanese Grand Prix


Lewis Hamilton won yesterday's Japanese Grand Prix which returned to the Fuji reacetrack for the first time since 1976 in the McLaren-Mercedes. Heikki Kovalainen in the Renault finished second and Kimi Raikkonen finished third in the Ferrari. Hamilton's teammate Fernando Alonso crashed out of the race with 26 laps remaining in the 67-lap race and thus scored a DNF. Jenson Button finished eleventh in the Honda, while Nick Heidfeld finished fourteenth in the BMW.

With results of this race and combined with the Italian and Belgian Grand Prix, Hamilton has a 12-point lead over Alonso 107-95, with Raikkonen at 90 points, and Felipe Massa in the Ferrari at 80 points and two races remaining. The next race is this coming Sunday with the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai.
